Impacts of Climate Change in the Mediterranean – A Climate Change “Hotspot”

Ante Ivčević is a geographer and oceanographer specialising in coastal risk management, climate change adaptation, and coastal governance, with particular attention to the science–policy interface in Mediterranean coastal regions. He holds a PhD in Geography from Aix Marseille University in France (2020), where his doctoral research focused on the role of risk indicators as interfaces between natural hazards and societal responses.

His academic background combines physics-geophysics (MSc, University of Zagreb) and oceanography (MSc, Aix-Marseille University) with advanced training in marine and environmental sciences, enabling an interdisciplinary approach to socio ecological coastal systems. Ivčević has authored and co authored peer reviewed articles in leading international journals, including International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, and Environmental Science & Policy, addressing topics such as risk perception, governance conflicts, and integrated coastal zone management (ICZM).

Professionally, Ivčević works as a Programme Officer at the Priority Actions Programme Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC) of UNEP/MAP, Split, Croatia, where he supports the ICZM and climate adaptation initiatives across Mediterranean countries. In parallel, after finalizing post-doctoral research at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium, he is engaged as visiting researcher at Aix-Marseille University on coastal risk anticipation and governance within international interdisciplinary projects focused on resilient Mediterranean territories.
